Körperlänge: ca. 0,6 bis 1,5 mm.
Kopf: Ocelli (3) nur bei geflügelten Tieren. 2-8 Ommatidien (können zahlreicher bei geflügelten Arten sein). Lange, dünne Antennen mit 15 Gliedern. Antennen sind geringelt. Labialpalpus mit 1 Glied.
Thorax: Körper stark dorsoventral abgeflacht. Hinterfemur meist verdickt. In der Regel flügellos (Liposcelis), aber es gibt auch geflügelte Formen (Embidopsocus).
Abdomen: Lang und oval. Paraproct ohne Analdorn.
Diversität
Weltweit mit 10 Gattungen und 206 Arten (Mockford 2018).
