Ähnliche Arten: Die Arbeiterinnen von
Bombus lucorum,
Bombus magnus und
Bombus cryptarum sind morphologisch nicht unterscheidbar.
Merkmale
Von den morphologisch sehr ähnlichen, aber nicht unmittelbar miteinander verwandten Arten Bombus cryptarum, Bombus lucorum und Bombus magnus ist Bombus terrestris in der mitochondrialen Cytochrome Oxidase Untereinheit I (COI) deutlich verschieden (Bertsch 2010; Bossert et al. 2016). Die nachfolgenden Werte zeigen die Unterschiede im DNA-Barcode (658 bp) (Bossert et al. 2016):
terrestris - cryptarum: 5,8%
terrestris - lucorum: 6,2%
terrestris - magnus: 5,7%
cryptarum - lucorum: 4,0%
cryptarum - magnus: 3,4%
lucorum - magnus: 4,1%
